"The almond is one of the 'seven species' of fruit, mentioned in the Torah, which grow in the land of Israel and is the first tree to blossom in the Spring. Hence, the almond is the symbol of Spring and is a symbol of the Holy Tabernacle, for the original Menorah held cups which were 'shaped like almond blossoms'."
