The first day of creation window deals with
the questions asked by science of creation i.e. how was the
universe created and what existed before the creation.
In the Torah, it tells you that the universe was created through
the power of speech. God said,
"Let there by light," etc. Therefore,
the Rabbis reasoned, what must have existed before the creation
were the words God used and the letters which make up those
words. Hence, we represent the "Tohu v' vohu,"
or primordial state of the universe, as a chaos of Hebrew
letters. In fact, it is not chaos, at all, but
words coming into formation, such as "or," for light,
the first thing created, "berasheet," the first
word of the Torah, "Adonai," "Elohim,"
and many other names of the creator. On Day One, Adonai
creates energy.
